VAG-COM Release 311.2 Announcement
New features:
* Supports all 2004 model VW/Audi/Seat/Skoda models using K-line for diagnostics. CAN support for Golf-5 based cars and the new Audi A8 coming 1Q 2004.
* New "Turbo" mode in Measuring Blocks for ME7 and EDC16 ECUs using KWP-2000 protocol for diagnostics. Up to 34 samples per second. Requires HEX-COM or HEX-USB interface. Slow PC's will not be able to achieve maximum sample rates.
* Enhanced keyboard support thoughout VAG-COM -- for people using old laptops with broken pointing devices, or 1551/1552 users who can't learn new tricks..:-)
* Browse function when opening Log files.
* Ability to Log Measuring Block Group 000.
* Considerable optimization and bloat reduction. This release is 10-15% smaller than some previous 3xx.x versions.
* Includes all features introduced in previous Beta versions 308 and 310.

What cars does this one bullet apply to....?

It only works in controllers that use native KWP-2000
So, the B5 engines cannot use the "Turbo" function since they are KWP-1281. Here are some VW/Audi vehicles that have KWP-2000 for their engine controllers:
'02+ A4 1.8T & 3.0
'04+ S4 V8
'02+ Passat 1.8T
'04+ Touareg
I can anticipate your follow-up question and the answer is, the KWP-1281 engines cannot use the same technology for sampling rate improvements.

34 Samples / Second sounds pretty high-speed to me.
No, our high-speed sampling doesn't work on all cars -- it has certain requirements. Of course, ECU Explorer doesn't work on all cars either. In fact, ECU Explorer only works on cars that APR makes chips for.
I dare say our high-speed sampling works on a much wider variety of cars than APR's, but there is relatively little overlap between the ECU's on which ECU Explorer works and the ones that VAG-COM supports for high-speed sampling.
Will we ever offer high-speed sampling for cars that don't use KWP-2000 for native diagnostics? Never say "Never", but don't hold your breath either. I sure don't need the hassle of being accused of stealing APR's "technology".

Yes and No..:-)
CAN support for the A8L (and Golf-V based cars in Europe) is already in there, but we don't yet have appropriate interfaces that we consider "saleable". The ones we're using for R&D purposes are relatively ugly and too expensive for resale.
If you had an A8L, I'd gladly set you up as a tester -- but you don't, do you?
Greenie never did show up here. I'll have to razz him.

Heck, if you had something, I would love to try it on a new A8L here in Chicago. There are some people here.
But besides talk to the systems, will it be able to fix any of the software bugs? Or could it download code so we could then upload the fix?
I only have the D2 A8, not the D3.
