VCDS error when attempting to clear code - 2001 Audi TT

I've worked on an error of 0217 (drivers side airbag) and wanted to clear/test operability.. Using VCDS, I scanned, then 'cleared' codes, but the code remains, as though it never even touched the clear function.

So I went into 15-Airbags, saw the faults, clicked '05-Clear Codes', and got a return of 'The Request to Clear Codes was not acknowledged by the control module'.
