Nogaro 2001.5 S4, Tial 605 GT, 6spd in Orange County, CA
2001.5 Audi S4 Sport, 6 Spd, Nogaro Blue FOR SALE - $6,500 (looking for quick sale)
This S4 represents a great opportunity for the mechanically inclined or the opportunistic investor who sees the value in the parts installed on the vehicle.
The VIN is WAURD68D41A126280 and it has been in no accidents.
I am the second owner of this S4 and have owned it since Sept 2004 when it had only 38K miles on it. It now has approximately 128K. At around 90K I upgraded from Stg 2+ to Tial 605 GT turbos ($5,500 parts when new + $3,000 install at WMS in Van Nuys) with EPL fueling / tune($2,800 new). It has ER intercoolers($1170 new), ASP TruDual Exhaust ($1000 new), Piggie Pipes, SDR Cold Air Intake ($330 new), AWE DTS, GReddy Turbo Timer, Neuspeed 19mm Rear Swaybar, H&R Springs, 034 Street Density Motor Mount and Snub Mount, 034 Tranny Mounts, 044 Bosch Fuel Pump, all new 02 sensors at 90K + timing belt service, 710N Bypass Valves, 18” Volk LE37 wheels, Blitz Boost gauge in vent, and technically it has a Vast Stage 3 clutch as well.
Finally, I have a second ECU with a custom tune done by GMG racing. This tune dialed back the settings of the EPL tune and optimized things so that it could pass smog clean (which it did successfully in March 2014) I don’t drive on this tune, just used it to smog. The EPL tune runs better and is faster. The GMG tune dyno’d at 387.13WHP and 397.25WTQ on about 20 psi boost and 91 oct (EPL also tuned for 91 oct but peaks around 23+psi). According to GMG adjusting for their very conservative Mustang Dyno this should equate to 437 WHP on a dynojet and around 500 crank HP. (A built Alpha 9 GTR on 91 oct did 587 WHP on this dyno for reference, and it’s supposed to have 900+ Crank HP)
Amazingly also, on the hwy I can still see 29-30mpg if I’m conservative but averages around 22mpg in mixed driving. Not bad for a 500+ HP, AWD car with almost 130K miles!
Also included in the deal are all the random parts I have associated with this car, most of which being parts that were replaced as part of this build. Additionally I have the original stock wheels too if you’d want them. These can all be parted out or whatever you desire. I just have no need for them.
Parting this car out could easily net 10K+ for someone so inclined or if you have the money and mechanical know-how, you can have yourself a neat AWD rocket that turns heads and gets thumbs ups from car geeks. In my opinion, the B5 S4 in Nogaro Blue is one of the classic, iconic cars of the Audi lineage and I hope that mine can go to a home that will have the resources to get it back on the road in its glory. In either case, kids, wife, house and work all are taking precedence at this point and unfortunately, my run with this great car is at an end.
Existing maintenance needs to the best of my knowledge are as follows
-Needs new brake pads
- I believe the coil packs should be replaced because 2 cylinders tend to get misfires at higher boost levels and the technician said the pattern indicates a need to replace coil packs and possibly spark plugs while you’re in there.
- Some of the CV Boots are torn and need to be replaced but I can’t tell you which ones.
- Needs 2 new rear tires
- And finally, the thing that is motivating the sale: There is an issue with either the clutch or transmission but I can’t tell which exactly. I was driving back to work on a lunch break and all of the sudden I couldn’t put the car into any gear. The car turns on in spite of not being able to go into gear. Thus, currently it is parked at my work parking lot in Costa Mesa and will not be able to be test driven as such. This problem might be an easy fix, but I can’t tell you and honestly, I haven’t even had it looked at by a mechanic. The S4 at this point doesn’t fit into my place in life and I’m not going to bother figuring out this particular issue.
I will have the car towed to any Orange County location for the buyer. Any buyer outside of this area is responsible for their own transportation of the vehicle.
I have receipts for the Stg 3 work and a dyno graph for the GMG dyno tune that comes on the extra ECU.
