Sometimes, the transmission in your C5 A6 Quattro is fine, but it seems defective because the transmission control module is having issues.

Often, this is due to water damage, since it's located under the carpet under the passenger seat. It's in a plastic case that is water-resistant but not water-tight. Major spills, clogged internal drains, or even aggressive water-intensive cleaning can cause water to reach the module and damage it.

I'm currently working on a 2000 Audi A6 Quattro 4.2 V8 with a drenched front carpet. When my tech removed the transmission control module, it was dripping water ... not good.
