1966 NSU WANKEL SPIDER !! VERY RARE !! RED AND MINT CONDITION !!

This is as good as they come.

Serial Number is 5602585.

I have been to several shows around the US and followed Ebay sales for many, many years and I have yet to see another Spider that has been kept so well and renovated with this attention to detail to create a more safe, dependable and pleasurable drive than even the NSU engineers could have imagined. I'm an architect by trade and I take pride in a well detailed car.

HISTORY:

I brought this car from Ohio in the year 2000 from the original owner. Due to family and business commitments I have no time to enjoy it. I have driven it very little, perhaps 100 miles or so on weekends and always on sunny days. The odometer shows 10,300 original miles. This car rides excellent !! It's really a pleasure to drive. I have a feeling that the car was driven in Germany due to the stickers in the windshield.

EXTERIOR:

Beautiful re-spray professionally done including the door jambs, back in 2000. The original NSU reds just don't hold up and oxidize with time. The match color is a deep red Mazda RX7 Convertible. Always keep the colors in the family !! The exterior is perfect.
The front emblem and rear emblems have been replaced with professional grade metallic stickers that look better than the original emblems. There is no side moldings for a beautiful rounded look. The original moldings are included. The doors close with a thick thump typical of the early German cars.

The convertible top is original and it's NEW, yes it's new. When I received the car I had to unwrap the original plastic because it had never been used.
The car can be delivered with a hardtop as well. This is additional cost. These hardtops are very rare.
The wheels are painted the same red as the body and trimmed out with the original trim rings. The center hubcaps are not installed but come with the car. The front and rear bumpers are original German chrome bright as sunlight. They are beautiful down to the original Hella driving lights (not connected)

The windshield has been replaced with a Lexan windshield custom curved and shaped to fit better than the original for a flush clean look. The original windshield is included. The windshield has markings of two european clubs: VATC and DAMTC. These were added by the previous owner and add authenticity to the car. The driver's side roll up window is also Lexan replaced by the previous owner.

INTERIOR:

The interior is spotless and the upholstery is all original. The original carpets were a bit worn so they were replaced with Interface brand carpet tile with integral padding with a herringbone design of the time and a few color stripes for fun. These can be removed if so desired because they are carpet tile. The seats are impeccable and are original. The door panels and dashboard are original and in mint condition.
The gauges all work well and the radio is the original factory AM radio and it works !! The steering wheel is a small Grant wheel that goes well with the year of the car. The original steering wheel is in great shape and is provided as well. The turn signal is a bit erratic which is no surprise being an older car, 40 years old.

ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION:

The engine is original and still very strong. I use Mazda rotary Turbo spark plugs that work very well. Don't let anyone sell you those fancy plugs that are around. No need for those. Since I drive the car occasionally I have disconnected the oil injection system. No harm there since the original seals are carbon and basically self lubricating.
The floor shifter has been tightened with new bushings for a nice "notchy" feel. The original rubbers from NSU wear all too soon. The transmission shifts impeccably and is very tight.

SUSPENSION BRAKES AND EXHAUST:

This is the best part ...

The car has been lowered in the front 1.5 inches using new springs for a beautiful snug fit of the front tires and a great front lowered look. The rear is not lowered as it would make it too bouncy. The original front springs are included.

The gas tank was cleaned up since it has to come out to get to the brake cylinders. The brake cylinders have been rebuilt thoroughly . What a job it is to get down to where the cylinders are !! The brake cylinders were cleaned out, and rebored for new off the shelf o-rings. This makes them easier to get in the future.
The brake reservoirs and the connecting hoses are new Tilton brake assemblies. The brake fluid hoses are textile reinforced 3/8-inch for proper durability. The original reservoirs are included. The exhaust is modified for a "a bit loud" sound which is to my liking. If it is too loud its a matter of changing the muffler.

The exhaust manifold (one pipe) has a Digatron pyrometer probe installed that sends the signal to the Digatron pyro gauge under the dashboard. This is the only way to tune the rotary / wankel engines and is used in racing Mazdas. The pyro shows the engine burning a healthy 1600 degrees Fahrenheit under acceleration. This means the mix is at its optimum and the plug is working fine.

OVERALL: The car does NOT have a scratch on it and not a single spot of rust. As I was preparing it for the photos, I noticed a very small area of paint peeling above the rear bumper which is hardly noticeable. Other than that, the car is ready to enjoy.
The car has ALWAYS been stored indoors in a heated space and covered with double quilted car covers.

VEHICLE CONDITION: Mint and Excellent !!

EUROPEAN BUYERS:

With the Euro being strong I have a feeling that this car will be purchased by a European buyer and it will return home. Please note the following:

If trust is an issue, I can also arrange payment and delivery through a well known auto broker in my area if you prefer. The Broker can hold the funds until the car is shipped. This will cost an extra fee. If this method is chosen then the payment can be made in full via wire transfer directly to the broker. Payment still has to be made within 3 business days.

TERMS:

1) There is no NO WARRANTY or GUARANTEE implied or given.
2) I am selling this car as is and where it is.
3) USA and World-Wide shipping can arranged but all shipping to be paid by buyer.
4) Title is clear and endorsed to me - Ohio plates are still on the car. Bill of Sale and endorsed title will be provided.

Phone: 650-766-3346 (cell) between 9am and 9pm Pacific Standard Time for more info.
