Default lol..."investments" and car "values"....

if you've ever been to Vegas, you can see how cars are like casinos. It seems that everywhere you go, there's a number attached to it. "We spent $3 Million renovating our buffet" etc. etc. It seems that thanks to the folks in Scottsdale...not all of the population of Scottsdale, mind you ;-)....the "value" of a car is always $x.
That sucks about not being able to drive a car for fear of having stuff damaged or stolen. There's no fun in that.
A couple of years ago I took some pictures of my DKW to show to my friend's dad. He sold a beautifully restored '56 Belair 4-door and had restored a '58 Impala Convertible. He was basically the guy my wife could blame for getting me into the old cars. I showed his family the pictures, and his son came in and asked "what kind of car is THAT?" His dad went on to explain (he knew the basics of what a DKW was) and then his son asked the inevitable question, "How much is it worth?" His dad said that it was a hard number to figure out, since the car was probably rarer than his Impala. I replied that it _was_ rarer, and I paid less than U$500 for it. His son was laughed, "...and you turned down U$60,000 for the Impala at Hershey last year...."
Enjoy the Fox, Brian, enjoy the fact that you don't need to put it under glass. ;-)
BTW, too bad you didn't bring it home on the May 18-20th weekend. You could have planned a route through Carlisle!
Cheers!

Great ! I like the "under glass" thing ! I know of a guy that wouldn't put oil into the crank case of his Shelby because he didn't want the engine to get dirty !

I am actually picking the car up on the 18th, how crazy is Charlisle? Never been, any Audi parts to be had or just domestic stuff?

Default Excellent!!!!

Brian,
As of last Wednesday, we had about 80 Audis registered. I'm sure we'll have more than that come showtime. The link will take you to Morgan's post in the 4000/CGT group. As far as the swap meet goes, I'm almost positive somebody had an engine for a Fox there....darn CRS.....Chris from Force 5 will be there and I'm sure if you asked him he'd find something to bring for you to look at. I like the swap meet, but the get-together is excellent - lots of really great people there and many, many interesting cars. Bring the Fox to Carlisle!!!! (It's been there before...so it knows how much fun it is!!!!)
Cheers!<ul><li><a href="https://forums.audiworld.com/4000/msgs/131412.phtml">Morgan's Humpday Carlisle Report x-post</a></li></ul>

Default fox

I bought the little Fox from Brian. I definately is'nt a Gti, but then, who cares. There is some work to be done but it will be fun as she runs well.
The blue car is an Audi 100S coupe and was nevr sold in the US due to Audi, Germany refusing to spoil it by allowing the addition of that ugly looking 5mph. bumpers.
I will be moving to the States soon and will actually be bringing my personal collection along, each of them, from 1969 thru 1975 (although in South Africa we had the run-off untill 1976.
Check out my future site, audivillage.net- this will be the Audi family museum I will be starting on arrival. One of my Coupe's is on the front page, just to wet the appetiteTJ Ferreira

Hi Brian, \
I had a 1979 Audi GTI and i miss it very much. the inside of all of them had Recarro courderoy seats a wood and steel steering wheel and it definitely had a different engine. it also had special shock towers that also went on the sirocco

I was fortunate enough to find an amazing mechanic at school (UCONN) who also was licensed to tune Rolls and maseratti. He tuned it so that it did 30 in first blew my mind. fifty in second eighty five in third. etc.

the badges on the side were amazing ( to me) they were a black an orange sequentially changing getting thicker toward the back and the spacing of the lines getting closer. I would give anything to get that car back, unfortunately at 125,000 it had an oil leak and caught fire ( doing a speed i wont mention on a very tight twisty highway. the handling with those shock systems was phenominal.

Blaupunkt (sp?) stereo cassette FM was an add on as was air conditioning. it actually towed my small boat very well the brakes having no trouble dealing with the extra 800lb behind it with a car full of camping or other gear.

We called her gti' with a soft g. Did I say i missed her?

any way the old Audis are amazing cars. the front wheel drive was sensitive without a lot of over steer. the pwer curve was a litgtle funky almost feeling like a turbo about 3,000 rpm, but that may have been this mechanic.

Enjoy!

Bruce
