did NSU ever put a rotary in a production car?

funny story about the ro80
it is common (at least here in Norway) to salute other people driving the same unusual car (Citroen 2CV, classic Land Rover, Morgan etc) as yourself by raising a hand when meeting them on the road.
When two ro80s met on the road the drivers would salute by holding up some of their fingers, the number of fingers indicating how many engine swaps they have had. The record is supposed to be three, then the owner bought a regular car instead.
how true it is I don't know :-)
