Re-Torque is it needed????
Hey all,
I just got new tires today. They were mounted and rebalanced and did the alignment too (all done at my local Audi dealer). I noticed on the invoice they suggest a re-torque after 100 miles...is this necessary if it was done at the Audi dealer whom I trust and have never had any faulty work etc. ???? The main reason I raise this concern is because I'm driving over 400 miles tomorrow and cannot cancel this trip. Do I have to worry about my tire falling off or possible breaking/damaging bolts and/or rotors...I brought this up to Audi and they said it's not really necessary and that I can just do it once I reach my destination they also mentioned that a lot of customers don't do it...any thoughts?

Update*
Mentioned my concern to my buddies uncle and he happened to have a torque wrench he checked the tires last night before the trip I made it to my destination without any issues and will be using his torque wrench to check the lug nuts one last time tomorrow

As a matter of course, I always re-torque wheels after a few miles (40-50). Rarely do I find it to result in need for additional tightening. Trying to recall, perhaps twice in the past ten years of 75 or so wheel mountings (4x75=300). With alloy wheels, I always apply 85 lb. torque. 90 lb. with steel wheels. So, as long as the technician used a properly-set torque wrench and not a pneumatic driver (never let them use a pneumatic device on your wheels), you should be fine.

Thank you guys for the replies! I'm not sure what the dealer used to torque the wheels I'll have to check the invoice. I was a little concerned about checking the 2nd time because I know how much damage can result from over torque and I didn't want to warp the rotors or damage lug nuts etc. The wrench is set to 90 pounds of torque. I've been driving it around and haven't felt and/or heard any issues so I think I'm all set.
