From 225/45/17 to 215/50/17 ?
So I need to pick up a set of 17s to go on my 17" 7.5" wide Ace Lolas. 3 Pole Position S-03s don't cut it! I will probably go all season and see how those do in the winter. The reality is that in the city, I don't drive through much snow, because it's plowed quickly. But the summer S-03s aren't even recommended for freezing temperatures, which makes them pretty limited.
Long as I'm going all-season I wondered about going with a slightly narrower profile, 215/50 as opposed to 225/45. Less rolling resistance, better in snow when I do encounter it, perhaps a bit better on urban pavement since it's slightly taller, maybe better mileage. The downside, obviously, is slightly less grip, but I'm not driving that aggressively and am not likely to track the car.
Any other thoughts pro or con?
And what can I do with 3 S-03s, make three tireswings??

Not something I personally would do. Any theoretical decrease in rolling resistance would be negligable at best, as would any increase in winter traction. 1/4" taller sidewall won't help too much for rim protection either. Going more narrow will expose more of the wheel width-wise making them easier to curb. Tire selection is more limited in 215/50R17 as well versus 225/45R17.

tires
