Default Winter Tires

Just wondering what everyone's go to for winter tires is...I recently purchased a 2010 A8 (255/40R19), and I'm going to go with a summer set and a winter set. Been looking into a few brands but the Nokian Hakkapeliitta 9's seem to be a very intriguing option. I don't know a whole lot about them though...anyone use the Nokian brand for winter?

Blizzaks are always rated as best. And, IME they are excellent. However, the special formula rubber is only on the outer 50-60% of the tread. So, when they get to about half of their life, they no longer perform the way they originally did. This is a deal breaker for me, and I believe it's why you see so many used sets for sale with two seasons of use.

I just purchased Michelin X-Ice, which seems to be a close competitor to the Blizzaks. I haven't used them yet, so can't comment, but it's a viable option to the Nokians and the Blizzaks. Same price as Blizzak, and probably cheaper than Nokian.
