Default BT: Tire pressure

Ive been setting my B5 S4 18" Michelin Pilots at 38F 37R cold. All four tires are wearing noticibly more in the center, indicating over-inflation. I really didnt think my setting were too high, any lower and the car doesnt feel right to me. Any advise? My previous set of Pilots wore the same way.

Default I would say you are running them too high

and the reason it does not feel right is probably the sidewalls are not stiff enough for you. I run 40/39 on my 225/45/17s and have the same high wear in the center. I know I am running them too high - my next set of tires will be set lower.

Thought Michelins had the stiffest sidewall in the industry?

Default That's what I would say the pressures should be at, but your evidence indicates otherwise.

Reggie is probably right. If the centers of the tires are wearing more than the shoulders, lower your pressures.
This assumes, of course, you have a proper alignment. If you don't, start by fixing that, then adjust air pressure from there.

...more like the 'softest' in the industry.

It does depend a little on driving style. Sounds like they weren't driven on agressively.

Or the pressure gauge he is using is very incorrect.

Default I am usually at 37/38 all the way round on Nero M+S, they ride like rocks...

34 feels a lot better, but I'm noticing in a couple weeks more shoulder wear. Oh well, I like the softer ride anyway... dunno if that helps at all.

Default Reeeely - I didnt know that!

BTW, drove to Cape Cod again and took some pressure readings. 38 cold = 43 hot after 100 miles on the highway 80-85 mph. Its my highway drives at high speed (probably in the summer even more so where Im back and forth to the Cape) where I need to bring my pressures down. Car rides noticably harder after a few hours in the car.
