Michelin Pilot Sport A/S tires aren't marked as A/S?

I had a set of Pilot Sport A/S tires installed today (255/40/R17). I specifically asked for A/S when I ordered the tires and double checked this when I dropped the car off.

When I got to work, I looked at the tires. The tires themselves have no indication on them that they are A/S tires. No A/S designation, no tread wear rating, no M+S designation.

I called the shop and they said that Michelin doesn't mark the tires with A/S. In the past, this shop has been very reliable.

Can anyone here confirm the shop is telling me the truth?

(I tried to look at photos on the Michelin web site, but it's tire catalog is unavailable right now.)

Im pretty sure that the ones that weve seen here all have a/s on the as part of the logo. You may want to double check. The thread patterns are not identical either. The A/s has a deeper thread and the surface is not smooth like the regular pilot sport

Like Sacha said, compare tread patterns to identify -->

Pilot Sport:

Pilot Sport A/S:

You'll notice more sipes/grooves in the A/S. The easiest thing to see is the continuous belt in the middle - on Pilot Sport it's solid, on A/S it's covered with little "nicks" :-)

My tires say "Pilot SPORT A/S" right on the sidewall and M+S immediately after tire size.....

My tires are 225/50YR-16 so I don't know if size makes a difference ( at least in tires).

and, of course, it does say "A/S" as you can see on that picture.

Update

I finally got through to the Michelin web site and compared tread patterns. They definitely installed the wrong tire.

The tire dealer has really pissed me off. When I ordered the tires, I specifically asked for A/S. When I dropped the car off to get the tires put on, I asked and they confirmed that they had the A/S tires.

After I picked up the car and got to work, I saw that the tires on the car didn't say A/S. I called the tire dealer. They said they were definitely A/S and that Michelin didn't put the A/S logo on the tires.

I finally got to the Michelin web site, saw the tread patterns, and confirmed that the tires were not A/S.

So, I called the tire dealer back. They wanted to charge me $40 a tire more (expected), but they refused to compensate me for the trouble they were putting me through to come back (unexpected). I told them to give me my money back. I am going back in there tomorrow to get the tires taken back off.

The dealer? Atlantic Tire in Cary, NC.

Credit Card, check, or cash ? : You may have some leverage

on the tire store folks thru your credit card company or your local bank if you did not pay cash.

Just the threat of a stopped payment and/or credit card complaint might help those who made the mistake be more wiling to work with you.

Also, a customer treated right will tell his friends; if a customer is not treated "right" they will tell everyone. Is there a public relations person or owner/senior manager at the store who might understand this concept?

So much for spending locally....do it right or the internet will? Sorry to hear about the headache!

Do you have a receipt that has "Pilot Sport A/S" written on it, if so

I believe they have to give you the right tires, even if they screwed up

Eddie@Tirerack 11-21-2002 08:44 AM

Yes it does (pic)

<center><img src="http://www.tirerack.com/tires/images/michelin/mi_pilot_sport_as.jpg"></center><p>As you can see above.

All of the PS A/S line will be ID'd as such, yes.
