Default Proper tire pressure for snow tires? A4 manual's pressure is too high.

I just got a set of Michelin Arctic Alpine tires put on my stock 7-spoke wheels yesterday. (It was 70 degrees F out on December 4th here in Central PA! Am I crazy, or what?) The recommended tire pressure on the car's gas filler cover says 36psi all around with a lightly loaded car. The Michelins say 35psi max on their sidewall, so I won't be putting 36psi in. Any comments on how much to put in? I tried setting one tire to 35psi, and the tire looked like it was bulging too much in the center of the contact patch. I decided to start with 33psi on all 4 tires. It still looks like it's bulging a bit in the center, but I'm going to keep an eye on wear and adjust if necessary.<p>Any comments or suggestions on the proper pressure would be greatly appreciated!<p>Jim Meyer<br>'98 2.8QMS

Actually the manual says to keep winter tires at <br>3#s more than the normal 36. I just had Pirelli 210S mounted, when the car is back I'll see what the sidewall says for pressure.<p>LouisE

1) Follow the Audi recommendation. Those sidewall recommendations I ssem to remember reading are very conservative.<br>2) Look for a Michelin Web site, find a contact, then call Michelin and ask them.<br>

Default Have winter grips at 28 psi....

My tire installer put my tires at 28 but I'm going to take them to 30 - 32 psi. I'm ususally alone or with my date, the car is never loaded up, etc. I believe 35+ is too high for winter grips myself, although A4 literature says different. My winters are likely harsher than yours so I think a lower pressure up here for the dead of winter when the snow's abundant will not hurt too much, maybe just a little worse fuel economy.

Winter 210 a sidewall states maximum PSI is 44.<p>
