Default Summer Tire Advice Please

Hi,

Looking to put new tires on our 2013 A3 Quattro S-line. 225 40 R 18. We live in Canada, so already have winter tires/rims. Looking for a good dedicated summer tire with emphasis on quiet and comfortable. We still want good performance too, but just street driving. Anybody with a similar vehicle who is happy to recommend something that might fit the bill?

Thanks

Since you probably can get early or late snows I would recommend Conti DWS06 all seasons.

I've got the Pirelli Cinturato P7 UHP summer tire on my A4 as standard equipment, 18" wheel size. I get about 25k miles from them, on my 2nd set now. It is a soft tire and a longer life cannot be expected. However, terrific tire in terms of comfort on horrid roads, great handling and quiet. I really couldn't offer any complaints except for a short life. With that said, my next tire for the car will be the Michelin Pilot Sport All Season 3. Supposed to be a great tire and will offer a much longer life than the UHP summer Pirelli.

Lots of good tires out there. Read up on a couple tires that might be on your short list. Tire Rack is a decent resource for "reviews".

Herman, welcome aboard !!

(I've also got winter tires/wheels.)

Thanks Reggie. I’m pretty conservative about when I switch over to the snows, so I’m looking for a dedicated summer tire.

Thanks guys. I have been reading up on the options. While it looks like the Pilot Sports are a great tire (I’m getting them on my summer “fun”car), it seems the Pirelli P zero offer slightly less but for quite a bit less money. Haven’t looked into the UHP but I will do that now.

Thanks for for the tips. If anybody has any P Zero experience I’d be interested to hear.

hands-down the best summer times I've ever owned are the Dunlop Sport Maxx SP...just unrivalled grip and you actually feel like you control the car 100%

downside is they are noisy, and not nearly as comfortable as the Michelin - and they get louder as they wear. As an aside, having owned 5 sets of various P Zeros on other cars, it remains the only tire I have ever had a flat with...though that can simply be the luck of the draw

This summer I switched from Pilot Super Sports to Pilot Sport 4S. They are both great summer tires. You won’t be disappointed.

I think the Super Sports are being discontinued, so if you have tire problems in the future, you may not be able to get replacements. PS4S are the replacements.

Another idea, the Michelin PS A/S3+ are as good as some summer tires, and are able to tolerate colder temperatures, which you may run into in Canada. Ride quality may be better than high performance summer tires.
