TT Quattro with Run Flat tires?

Are there any cons to driving on run flat tires? Do they really have shorter treadware?

I'm not really concerned with performance, as long as they handle well in wet weather.

I'm more concerned about not having blown out tires while driving. Would this in combination with an aftermarket tire pressure monitoring system work?

I would really like to have the peace of mind of run flats if possible on my quattro. :)

Any comments/suggestions would be great! :P

My thoughts on run flats

1. They are heavy.
2. They are expensive.
3. If you get a flat in bum F*ck Kansas - you will not find a replacement tire that quickly (remember you only have a limited amount of miles you can run with the tire flat.)
4. I have read that some of these tires are harsh riding.

Not using run flats:
1. AAA can be your friend
2. Carry a can of sealer
3. You should have the aftermarket tire monitor anyway.
4. Getting your replacement tire will be quicker and easier if it is a normal brand and there is more probability that it will be in stock locally.

How about cases of a blow out?

I'm more concerned about having a blow-out and losing control of the vehicle if it's going at high speeds. Which can be very dangerous.

Do you have any opinions on how well the device above works for letting you know when your PSI drops below a certain treshold?

:)

First - any one who plans high rates of speed and does not check tire pressures

deserves what they get.

As far as I know the sensors work great. Lots of vehicles are adding them as a option or standard equipment.

I did not check your link but the sensor like the Tire Rack carries is what I would get.

Yeah, I think I'll end up with the Smartire TPMS. Since the TT wasn't designed for RFT tires, would

it hurt to put them on at this point? in regards to the suspension.

I have them and I like them

weigh with 17 inch flik rim 52 lbs.Cost app. $112 at edge racing ride MUCH better than stock Contis. Getting a flat in the middle of nowhere ? Hell youre probably going to have to replace all 4 anyways (Quattro remember)The Nero do trammel on certain freeways, and probably not top tier for performance but so far so good
