Default Tyre Width V MPG

How much does wider tryes affect MPG figures. I ask because I have just purchased a 2010 A4 Avant 2.00 TDI, its the third A4 Ive owned. It is fitted with S Line wheels and tyres at 245 width. All my previous A4s have had original wheels/tyre and I have easily got 55/60 MPG, with this new one the best I can get is 44MPG. It this owing to the wider wheels. Can anyone help ? Thanks

A lot of factors will affect MPG. You've already alluded to the width of the tyre being one of them. Other things can be the brand, the rolling resistance of the tyres, the resistance of any accessories fitted to the car (e.g. mud flaps). Comparing different cars can also be difficult, if nothing else, due to their different weights.
