Audi A4 B7: General Information Service Manual

Possible Repairs You'll Need to Make

Like any vehicle, there are some possible repairs for which you might want to keep an eye out. For example, a control arm replacement may be in your future as an Audi A4 B7 owner. The CV boot covering your CV joint, located at the CV axle of your car, may also need to be repaired.

Most Likely Repair You'll Need to Make

As the owner of an Audi A4 B7, one of the most important repairs you'll need to plan and prepare for is the replacement of your timing belt. Ideally, this repair won't be necessary until you've amassed approx. 85,000 to 100,000 miles on your odometer. If you're able to get away with driving your Audi A4 B7 a few additional miles beyond this reasonable range, that's fine. However, don't expect to exceed this range by much, or leave this repair undone, completely.

Scheduled Maintenance

Make sure to change your engine oil every 4,000 to 5,000 miles. Doing so will keep your engine in good working order, and, in the process, save you big in repair costs later on down the line.

Common Questions

How early could my timing belt begin to show signs of damage?

Some Audi A4 B7 owners have reported needing to replace the timing belt on their vehicle after reaching the 70,000 miles on the odometer. However, Audi claims most vehicles will only require a timing belt replacement at or around the 100,000-mile mark. The professional cost is approx. $900; however, those who have advanced-level mechanical experience can perform the repair for approx. $250.

How has Audi address recent mechanical issues?

Audi addressed issues of camshaft follower failure by issuing an extended warranty of the component. The manufacturer made the same move when it came to a PVC valve problem found on the Audi A4 B7. When it came to problems with a faulty ignition coil pack on the vehicle, Audi took a different route and responded by issuing a complete recall of the part.

How long does an "extended warranty" last?

The length of the extension depends on the individual part. For example, the camshaft follower and PVC valve were all given 10-year (or 120,000 miles) warranties. A similar extended warranty was given on a faulty high-pressure fuel pump (HPFP).
