It's unsafe to go over the speed limit, but we all tend to zone out and go a little faster than we should. A radar detector is a good way to remind us when there are radars around. It is no secret the Audi A4 always wants to go fast, so make sure you save your hard earned money, and install a radar detector. Radar detectors come in all shapes and forms. Some could hang from the sun visor, some could be mounted to the rear view mirror, and the most common one uses a suction cup to stick to the front windshield. You can either use your lighter's socket to connect its wire, or you can connect the wire to one of your electrical components, such as the dome light. Read on to learn how to easily mount your radar and secure your money.

Materials Needed

  • Radar detector
  • Mounting kit

Step 1 – Choose mounting location

Depending on your mounting kit, choose the best location for you. Make sure it doesn't alter your line of vision. The best location is in the middle of the dashboard, mounted to the windshield.

Step 2 – Mount radar detector

Use your suction cups to mount the radar detector in the place you want on the windshield. Some suction cups use pressure to mount, while others have a small plastic handle that you can pull down when in place, which sucks the air in for a tight mount.

Step 3 – Route the wire

Route the wire the way you're comfortable with. Some people let it go right down the center console, and into the lighter socket, while others don't like to see the wire, so they mount it along the side of the dashboard, then come around to the lighter switch. If you don't want to use the lighter socket, you will need to buy another kit, which allows you to splice the wire and connect it to your fuse box. You can tuck the wire behind the dashboard or the headliner so it doesn't dangle in front of you.
