Step 1 – Make sure the brake pedal is released

You could be pressing on the brake pedal.

The brake pedal is meant to be pressed when you're starting the car; however, if you press the brake pedal, turn off the ignition, and go to pull your key out, it won't let you. If you press the pedal and turn off the engine, your car goes into "Ignition On/Ignition Off" mode, which locks your key fob in. Simply release the brake pedal, make sure it's in "Ignition Off" mode, then pull the key out.

If this isn't the issue, proceed to Step 2.

Step 2 – Be patient

You could be removing it too quickly.

Forum enthusiasts agreed that removing the key right after you turn the car off makes it get stuck. Try turning the car off, then wait two to three seconds for the key to release, and then pull it out. This solution has worked for many drivers with this similar issue.

If the problem persists, proceed to Step 3.

Step 3 – Unload the key chain

Your key chain could be too heavy.

The last issue that causes your key fob to get stuck in your Audi's ignition is having a busy key chain. Some people keep all their keys on the same key chain as their Audi key, which can cause it to get stuck. If you've tried all of the above solutions and your key is still getting stuck, it may be time to free up your key chain. It's recommended you only put the Audi key in the ignition with no load on it. If you experience a stuck key often, consider having a separate key chain, especially if you have a lot of keys.
