Audi: How to Lubricate Sunroof Track and Mechanism

A slow and squeaky sunroof is a sunroof in need of lubrication. This article will show you just how easy it is a lubricate a sunroof.

Is your sunroof squeaky? Does it not move as well as it used to? If so, then it's probably time to lubricate the sunroof track and seals. This is guaranteed to get rid of that irritating squeak and increase the speed at which your sunroof opens and closes. Just follow the instructions below to learn more.

Audi How to Lubricat Sunroof Track and Mechanism

Materials Needed

  • Lithium grease
  • Krytox paste
  • 2 small paint brushes
  • Isopropyl alcohol
  • Clean cloths

It's recommended that you use the Audi/VW brand lubricating grease and Krytox paste.

Step 1 – Clean and lubricate the sunroof seal

Open the sunroof cover and tilt the sunroof up on one side. Using a cloth and isopropyl alcohol, wipe down the sunroof seal. Wipe off any traces of dirt or grease. Then, using a small paint brush, apply the krytox paste to the seals until no traces of white grease are visible. Clear off any excess globs of the paste. Then close the sunroof and tilt it open in the opposite side. Repeat the same process of cleaning and applying the paste for the other side of the seal.

Step 2 – Clean and lubricate the sunroof track

Open the sunroof completely so that you have access to the track. Like before with the seal, use a clean cloth and isopropyl alcohol to wipe away any traces of dirt or grease from the track. Make sure to clean every crevice of the track going inside and around it. Once the track is clean and dry, it's time to apply the grease. You want to make sure to get grease into every crevice of the track, as there are gaps on both sides and on the top of the track. When you are finished applying the lubricant, open and close the sunroof a few times to make sure that the lubricant gets spread out along the track.
