1. Constantly Monitor the Health and Performance of Your Vehicle

VCDS use the software for diagnostics of their Volkswagen Passenger Cars, Audi, SEAT, and Škoda automobiles, along with Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles. This data is then used to make appropriate adjustments to the car, to improve its performance and extend its lifespan.

2. Save Money

VCDS performs most of the functions of the expensive electronic diagnostic tools available only to official dealers. This allows owners to perform several of the more fundamental tasks of owning a vehicle, including diagnosing problems, diesel ignition timing, modification of convenience options such as automatic door unlocking, coding a replacement electronic control unit (ECU) or key to the vehicle, and monitoring of many vehicle sensors for diagnosing problems.

3. The Software Package is Incredibly Sophisticated

As compared to on-board diagnostic tools, VCDS features baked-in tools to allow for more in-depth Volkswagen Group-specific manufacturer protocol commands. Owners who are able to access this information are able to fully access all diagnostic-capable vehicle systems, including those automobiles not covered by generic on-board diagnostic tools.

4. It’s Affordable

The PC-based package is just $249, while the mobile version (so you can diagnose your car and access data from your mobile phone) is $449. Compared to the cost of a standard diagnostic session, the software is well worth the investment.

5. The Required Hardware is Minimal

VCDS is a Windows-supported program. In order to use it, you need a portable, personal computer; A laptop will do. You will also need an interface adapter to connect the computer to the car. These are the major requirements — a computer and an adapter. Some owners also download a copy of the VCDS manual, have an extension cable, and a repair manual, but these items are not absolutely necessary.
