Underrated Potential

The Audi TT has always been an underappreciated platform. Few understand the true potential of the compact Audi sports car. When the TT RS was introduced to the world back in 2012, the manufacturer gave us a glimpse of what the car is capable of. On paper, the TT RS is the perfect mix of daily driving comfort and the capability of spirited weekend driving fun. But as folks like Keith Dempsey, the owner of this monstrous TT RS would tell you, it has the potential for so much more than that.

Love at First SIght

Dempsey first found out about the existence of the sporty TT model in 2014 while browsing YouTube. He describes his passion for the car as somewhat of a "love at first sight" type of deal. Over the next few days, the obsession continued to grow. And Dempsey was driving a Black 2013 TT RS within seven days of knowing about it.

Getting Back on the Horse

He was enjoying all that the Audi had to offer for a couple of years. But sadly, his fun was cut short when the car was totaled in an accident. Amazingly, Dempsey didn't take much time to mourn. He decided to purchase his second TT RS only 2 days after the incident. And that's how he came to start his quest for improving the platform in every way.

Quest For 1,000 HP

His goal from the start was to reach the 1,000-horsepower mark. But he didn't want to lose the driving feel of the TT RS. The manual transmission wasn't going anywhere, and neither were any of the creature comforts. With the objective of keeping all the major modifications under the skin, Dempsey began rebuilding the motor with reinforced internals.

Added Boost

Increasing the boost and fuel injection were the natural next steps. A Xona Rotor 9567 turbocharger takes care of the added boost. And a Walbro 450 pumps in as much fuel as the powerful motor needs. The process wasn't completely free of challenges. But Dempsey managed to get through it all, ending up with this beast of a power plant. Running on E85 and with 40 lbs of boost, the 5-cylinder mill was clocked on the dyno at 867 HP and 600 lb-ft of torque at the wheels.

Ready For the Race Track

With the power figured out, Dempsey knew he had to make improvements to the car's chassis and suspension as well. Wanting to extract the most performance out of the car on track days, he upgraded the suspension to KW DDC coilovers. Sway bars were added for stiffness and the braking system got a complete overhaul. A limited-slip diff was also added to the mix. Dempsey is happy with his current setup, but he's always looking for more improvement. As we all know, a project car is never quite finished.
