ABT RS5-R Sportback is World's Most Fun Commuter

Under the hood

One of the biggest – and best – things that ABT Sportsline did to the RS5 is the update done to the vehicle’s existing 2.9-liter twin-turbo V6 engine. It now pumps out a monstrous 503HP and 509 lb-ft of torque, an impressive jump over the stock car’s 444 HP and 442 lb-ft of torque. What does this mean on the track? Simply put, the modified model can go from 0 to 60MPH in just 3.6 seconds, significantly faster than the standard version’s time of 3.9 seconds. It can also go beyond the standard car’s top speed of 174MPH.

Where is this extra power coming from?

Extra cooling. No, seriously. That’s it. The extra 59HP and extra 67 lb-ft of torque come via all the extra cooling the system is receiving courtesy of the car’s separate ABT Engine Control (AEC) unit, an ABT additional water radiator kit, the ABT rear muffler package, and ABT air intake cover.

Whatever you throw at it, the ABT RS5 Sportback can handle it

When you’re not putting the pedal to the metal to see how fast this car can go, check it out in the corners. The ABT Sportsline package includes (some would consider) industry-best ABT height adjustable suspension springs as well as ABT sports stabilizers on the front and rear of the car.

Carbon fiber everywhere

There’s no doubt that carbon fiber is very much in style right now. And the ABT Sportsline is definitely cashing in on this trend. The car’s aerodynamics package is outfitted in shiny, highly-visible carbon all throughout. It has an ABT front lip and ABT front grill frame outfitted with a nifty RS5-R logo that will surely cause bystanders to stop and stare. Optional ABT wheel arch vents featuring carbon fins can make the flanks look even more aggressive. Taking a look at the rear, the car features an ABT spoiler and ABT rear skirt add-on with, naturally, another RS5-R logo on it. The car’s quad-pipe ABT exhaust trims come included, as do 10x21" ABT SPORT GR wheels.

Looking ahead

Initially speaking, there will only be 50 cars receiving the ABT package. And they’ll only be available in America and Canada. Europe will have to wait a bit more for the arrival of the RS5. But fear not, there is a “promise” that more will be made... eventually. There’s no word on price yet. However, ABT has confirmed that all of these special mods will come with a four-year or 100,000-mile warranty. And that makes sense with cars outfitted with monstrous power like this.
