Seeking Power

The R8 has long been one of the better-kept secrets in the world of exotic cars. It's essentially a Lamborghini with Audi skin and a cheaper price tag, which is never a bad thing. But as we've seen in the past, the R8 is also capable of making big power with some mods, which is precisely why the owner of this 2017 model - Kyle Loftis - took it to AMS Performance.

Big Upgrade

Loftis recently went and picked up his highly modified ride from AMS, and got to witness it getting dialed in on the dyno before taking it for a test drive, all of which is documented in this video. It took around three weeks for AMS to install the new Alpha twin-turbo kit on the car's V10 powerplant, but needless to say, the results were obviously worth it.

Getting Started

The dyno session starts off with a few baseline runs before AMS starts cranking up the boost. The R8 is running a Motec ECU, which stores up to five map settings, allowing the car to run on a variety of different fuels depending on where Loftis feels like driving it. The heavily-boosed V10 breathes through a titanium exhaust, which sounds absolutely wicked from startup to the redline.

Impressive Numbers

On pump gas, the turbo'd R8 manages to lay down an impressive 900 horsepower on just 8 pounds of boost. But once the team fills it up with some E80, that number jumps to an incredible 1,225 horsepower at a lofty 8,210 rpm on 14 psi of boost. Needless to say, that should make this Audi supercar more than a little fun to drive.

Hook and Go

Unfortunately, it's a bit cold out on this particular day as there's still snow on the grass. Thus, the team turns the R8 down to map 2 before making a few spirited acceleration runs. The car launches with just a tiny bit of wheelspin, planting driver and passenger back in the seat over and over again with minimal effort.

Track Test

Most recently, Loftis got his first runs in the newly built R8 down at this year's Texas 2K, and he and AMS are currently working on putting together a series of videos to document their exploits. We certainly can't wait to see how this wicked Audi did on the track, and with any luck, the new build held together as expected.
