Audi Electrified

Audi is gearing up to launch a range-topping, pure-electric, coupé next year: E-Tron GT. Audi officials have already confirmed the E-Tron GT will be offered in regular, S and high-performance RS trim levels.

E-Tron Lineup

Set to follow Audi's traditional trim level pattern liking to A6, S6, and RS6; the E-Tron GT will start with base-level battery capacity, range, and amenities. Given the RS model's top-tier status in Audi's trim hierarchy, prospective buyers should expect the E-Tron GT to be a pioneer of Audi's latest and most advanced technology, and highest power numbers.

Power

The E-Tron GT concept featured a "more than 90kWh" battery. Audi says to expect the car to have a 0-62mph time of approximately 3.5 seconds, and an electronically-limited top speed of 149mph. An E-Tron GT RS could be good for quicker acceleration via bigger batteries, motors, and a decent weight reduction among other tweaks.

Architecture

Audi is set to utilize four different EV platforms for its future lineup of EV creations, each with a specific purpose within the VW Group. Autocar says the E-Tron GT will share its 800V J1 electrical architecture with the much-lauded Porsche Taycan. The J1 platform could also underpin a future electric successor to the iconic R8.

Capability

In concept form, the E-Tron GT's battery can recharge to 80% in just 20 minutes (via a 350kW ultra-fast charging point) and is good for a range of over 200 miles on a single charge. Expect all-wheel steering and wireless charging to be available. In RS flavor, the range could be the highest in the lineup.

2021

There is no release date at the time of this piece publishing, however, the vehicle is slated to enter production in late 2020. That will be followed up with the first deliveries of customer cars scheduled to begin in early 2021. That should provide a decent amount of time for most interested parties to toss their proverbial chips onto the table for the sport EV sedan.
