New Direction

These days, Audi is busy transitioning its internal-combustion-powered lineup into EVs, but it's also working on something a bit less shocking - three new "luxury class" concepts, all with "Sphere" in their names, which are designed to preview the next generation of Audi's design language. First up we have the GrandSphere, which is destined to replace the A8 atop the automaker's lineup.

Dual Purpose

Audi supplied us with a few shadowy images teasing this exciting new sedan, and though we can't see all of its details, there's enough here to tell that the GrandSphere's interior design is truly revolutionary. The car itself is also part of the automaker's Project Artemis, which is dedicated to developing new EV platforms in-house.

Futuristic Cabin

The GrandSphere's cabin is more luxury airport lounge than automobile, but there's a very good reason for that - it's designed to preview the future of autonomous driving. The design is certainly futuristic, with swoopy lines and comfy-looking seats along with a steering wheel that disappears when the car is driving itself.

Easy Access

Getting in and out of the GrandSphere is easy thanks to the car's lack of a B-pillar, which means the doors open up and create a massive open space. All four seats are designed to recline and move forward and backward, so each occupant can get comfy for those long self-driven trips.

Coming Soon

The GrandSphere will be fully revealed at the 2021 Munich Auto Show, which kicks off on September 7. It will soon be joined by a pair of additional concepts dubbed the "SkySphere" and "UrbanSphere," all of which are designed to preview production cars destined to launch in the coming years.

Looking Ahead

It's unclear what those latter two concepts will be, but most believe the SkySphere will be a convertible of some sort, while the UrbanSphere is expected to represent more of a city vehicle. Regardless, this trio of concepts aren't flights of fancy - they're designed to be a clear look at the future of Audi.
