Top 5 Audi Engines of All Time

If you are an Audi fan, no doubt, you have lusted over the incredible workmanship and engineering that have gone into each engine the company has ever produced. Audi is arguably one of the top producers of the greatest power plants ever made. Here are five of the greatest engines ever dropped into an Audi.

1. Supercharged 3.0L TFSI DOHC V6

The Audi S4, S5, A7, and A8 have all had this impressive power plant as well as SQ5 and Q7 beasts. There is a reason why this particular was on top of Ward's Auto list of the best engines ever made for an impressive 5 times in a row by 2014. This engine has to be on top of any list of the best of the best. The 3.0L cranks out an impressive 333 hp and 325 lbs-ft of torque.

2. 3.2L FSI DOHC V6

This power plant debuted in 2005 and was the first to inject its fuel right into the cylinder heads about 30 times stronger than going the traditional route to the intake manifold. This allowed the "little" v6 to crank out a nice 255 hp at 243 lbs-ft of torque. A true machine built well ahead of its time.

3. 4.2LDOHCV8

In 2004, Wards named this engine in its top ten lists for big displacement engines. This 40 valve V8 will crank out 253 horsepower and 430 lbs-ft of torque. This is an even more impressive feat considering it wasn't found in a muscle car, rather a luxury sedan that could keep up with the best of the best.

4. 2.7L “Biturbo” DOHC I-6

This Audi powerplant had an enlarged intake and smaller exhaust ports on the two cast aluminum heads which allowed it to crank out an impressive 440 horsepower. Not too shabby for a 30 valve v6.

5. Turbocharged 2.2L DOHC I-5

What knuckleheads love about this incredible engine is its ability to be modded to the sky and back. This 2.2L bad boy is a popular transplant into just about any cage and allows such a myriad of upgrades that no two engines are hardly ever alike. It came right off the showroom floor cranking out an impressive 232 hp at a whopping 410 lbs-ft of torque.
