Top 7 Pet Peeves in Audis

Does the seatbelt hug your chin? Or maybe there isn’t a coin tray where you would want one. While these things certainly won’t stop you from purchasing a car, they do have the power to get under your skin. Here we list the top 7 pet peeves Audi drivers have towards their cars.

1. Awkward Cup Holders

What has been a standard feature on just about every single car out on the market today, should not be that hard to design? Unfortunately, the folks at Audi still haven’t gotten the memo and owners keep complaining about the poor designs seen on such classics such as the Audi R8, S6, C6 and more. The C7, for example, has two cup holders placed side-by-side, which makes its difficult to position any drink larger than 20oz. Even the new 2017 A4 has the cupholders located relatively close to the heater controls, causing issues with removing and placing a drink.

2. Badly Designed Eyeglass Holder

Having a compartment to store your glasses is supposed to help keep the clutter out of the cabin. Unfortunately, these storage units have had continuous fitment issues, with car owners complaining about the amount of space. The storage area is just too small and a lot of standard sized glasses get stuck, so car owners reluctantly place their glasses in the armrest storage or available cupholder. Perhaps this eyeglass compartment was intended for use with monocles instead of glasses?

3. Lack of Coin Tray

If you are a common highway commuter and have continually forgotten to purchase an E-PASS, like me, then coin trays are a must. Unfortunately one of the biggest pet peeves with Audi cars is the lack of a coin tray. While this is quickly remedied with a quick trip to a dollar store, it's still annoying considering how easy it is to place a coin tray anywhere on the dashboard.

4. E-Brake Fitment

Cited as one of the most annoying problems in the S4, the e-brake is located directly under the armrest. That's right, not slightly to the left, closer to the driver, but directly under the armrest. This means manual car drivers have to raise the armrest in order to access the e-brake and pull it up all the way. Not only is this issue annoying, but I would dare say a dangerous design flaw.

5. No AUX or USB Setup

You would think after over a decade of Aux and USB inputs becoming the standard in the automotive market, Audi would comply. Instead of using standard universal audio ports, Audi uses a proprietary AMI-audio input connection that requires the purchase of an additional AMI to Apple or USB cable. Audi seems to actively stay away from USB or AUX setups as seen in the newer 2015 Audi A3 and 2016 A4. Some car owners have had success retrofitting a USB port, however, the general consensus is that it is not worth the process. On the positive side, Audi does offer numerous other audio platforms such as BlueTooth and WiFi Streaming.

6. Fog Lights

The headlight function has two modes, manual and automatic (Auto). Auto mode turns both the headlights and fog lights on at the same time, while manual requires you to turn the headlight on and then select the Fog lights. It's not that hard to wire a switch that bypasses the two modes and allows you to independently use the fog lights. Unfortunately, this small problem still has yet to be addressed.

7. Door Chime

A door chime is a neat passive feature to have, but only when you’re in "Drive" and on the road. The door chime makes the list because of just how loud it really is and how it turns on when the car is stopped in "PARK". The general consensus agrees and its just downright annoying when you have to step out of your car to do something, only to have the alarm go off as you exit and enter the vehicle leaving the door ajar for a few seconds.
