1. 2000 R8 LeMans Prototype

The LeMans Prototype, with a chassis comprised of carbon fiber and aluminum, was the winner of the LeMans Series from 2000 to 2006 in a feat of absolute supremacy. The race car entered 79 races and it won an outstanding 63 with a Greek god-slapping V8 twin-turbocharged heart. One fine example sold for a cool million back at a 2012 auction.

2. 1938 Auto Union D-Type

This lightweight racer had almost 550 horsepower coupled with a much better suspension than the competition when it debuted back in 1938. One appeared in 2009 at an auction, and the bids for the mighty little car went for more than $6 million dollars!

3. 1907 Horch 26/65 PS

What car does the automotive world have to thank for the six-cylinder engine? This one. This car enabled many for generations to come to take the middle ground of sidestepping a lowly NA 4-cylinder and say "no thank you" to a burly V8 for a middle ground six-pot.

4. 1956 DKW Monza

This model has a lightweight body made of polyester (yes, you read that right) and reinforced with glass fiber that gave it an edge with handling along with its impressive aerodynamics. This one is supremely rare to find in good-to-great condition as the parts are understandably expensive to replace. Back in 1956 when the car debuted on the scene, it set five world records in just one day.

5. 1994 RS2

When people say the term 'hot hatch,' they usually conjure thoughts of two-door cars with performance tuning and a dialed-in suspension. This four-door model shocked many that wrote it off as a "kiddie hauling car'  with 0-60 time that would put many modern $50,000+ cars to shame.

6. 1993 Ur-S4

Audi took the 100 and tuned a couple engines along with the suspension to deliver the Ur-S4 to market. You could get this lovely little number in a 4.2-liter V8 or a turbo inline 5.

7. 2016 R8 V10 Plus

This 5.2-liter V10 car was made for those who desire a vehicle that is not only far more than competent for daily driving but also a track day fighter. If you happen to be looking for a great wallpaper, check out the R8 LMS GT3 race car on the same platform but with many go-fast components.

8. 2016 R18

Continuing Audi's dominance of LeMans is the newest iteration of the R18 that sported altered aero and a lithium-ion battery. The 4.0-liter turbodiesel V6 engine was the same that has been powering the R18s since 2011.
