New TDI in the Audi A3

Audi is introducing a new TDI engine for the A3. The in-line four-cylinder 1.9?litre engine develops 74 kW (100 bhp) at 4000 rpm. The new TDI with front-wheel drive can be ordered immediately and replaces both of the previous 1.9-litre versions delivering 66 kW (90 bhp) and 81 kW (110 bhp).

The new unit with its high-pressure pump-injector fuel injection system produces its peak torque of 240 Nm at between 1800 and 2400 rpm. As a result the A3 1.9 TDI with five-speed manual gearbox achieves performance figures comparable to the existing 81 kW (110 bhp) version. It sprints to the 100 km/h mark in just 11 seconds and on to a top speed of 188 km/h.

At the same time, the Audi A3 1.9 TDI stands out by virtue of its consistently economical fuel consumption. Only 5.0 litres are needed for every 100 kilometres (total consumption according to 93/116/EC). It is therefore able to cover distances of up to 1100 kilometres without stopping to refuel.

As well as the five-speed gearbox, the new A3 1.9 TDI can also be supplied with a five-speed tiptronic automatic transmission. This can also be operated via an optional multi-function steering wheel with tiptronic keys.

The basic price for the new Audi A3 1.9 TDI with Attraction interior is EUR 19,500 (DM 38,138). It is in the same insurance group as its 66 kW predecessor: group 15 (third party), group 33 (part-comprehensive) and group 19 (fully comprehensive).
