RS 6 Sedan Confirmed for the U.S.
By: Jason Teller

A recent forum posting by AudiWorld reader BenM asserted that the new RS 6 would be coming to North America. This information was based on comments made at a grand opening event at University Audi in Seattle.

The information is attributed to Russ Hill -- an executive with Audi of America -- and somebody with whom I've spent a fair amount of time over the past couple of years. Knowing Russ, I figured the information was accurate. However we wanted to confirm it with somebody else from Audi before preparing a report.

This past weekend at the 12 Hours of Sebring ALMS race we got the confirmation we were looking for from none other than Len Hunt, VP of Audi of America. Audi will bring a mere 800 RS 6 sedans to the U.S. next year. The RS 6 Avant will not be offered. It is not clear whether Canadians will get a shot at the RS 6, or if they are are only U.S. bound.

With two Audi of America executives making public statements about the RS 6, I'll go out on a limb and guess that we'll hear full details at the New York International Auto Show later this month. Of course we'll be providing full coverage from New York starting March 29th.

As for the other information provided by BenM, we haven't been able to confirm anything but the RS 6. However we have been hearing for over a year now that the next S4 would have a V8 and no turbos, so that information is at least consistent with our understanding. I have been expecting to see the launch of the new S4 in Paris in September -- not in Geneva in 2003 as stated in the posting -- but only time will tell.
