The 1000-mile race at Road Atlanta ("Petit Le Mans") decides the outcome of the American Le Mans Series (ALMS) championship battle. The Audi customer teams Infineon Team Joest and ADT Champion Racing fight for the Driversī and Teamsī titles with their Audi R8 sportscars at the ninth and final race of the 2003 season. Audi has already prematurely wrapped up the American Le Mans Manufacturers' Championship.

For the fourth consecutive time, an Audi R8 has won the "Petit Le Mans" race. Johnny Herbert and JJ Lehto celebrated a dominant victory in the 1000-mile race at Road Atlanta (USA), giving Audi's American customer team ADT Champion Racing their first "Petit Le Mans" success.
