Dubs Along the Rockies 2006

Colorado Springs, CO plays host to the annual Dubs Along the Rockies enthusiast show. While primarily a VW oriented event, organizers are adamant that the Dubs’ Audi brethren belong as well. With that in mind, AudiWorld was a major sponsor and did its part to try to drive additional Audi attendance.

This year’s show, like 2005, was held in the parking lot of the World Arena. The location is ideal with easy access to the highway and plenty of wide open space to park vehicles and setup an autocross course. Speaking of autocross – that part of the event actually started on Saturday, June 24th and was followed by the main show on Sunday the 25th.

We never heard official numbers but the event did draw a nice crowd of veedubs with a smattering of Audis; the ratio was probably about 10:1. That said there were a few very clean B5 S4’s which served as the primary eye candy, as well as the 2007 RS4 that AudiWorld showed-off courtesy of Audi of America. More than a few people approached the RS4 and did a double take, with a few folks actually asking us to start it up to let the exhaust roar.

Attendees were treated to a variety of vendor booths just in case they were looking to spend a buck on upgrades. VW also brought out their summer travel trailer with a sweet racing game and a lot of t-shirts to give away.

As with most smaller shows the best fun comes from meeting and talking with other enthusiasts. The fantastic Colorado crowd was out in full force making it a great way to spend the day. The downside came at the end of the day when Mother Nature furnished an absolutely terrential downpour complete with small hail. No damage was reported, but at one point there appeared to be over 100 attendees crowded under the official show tent with sideways rain making the tent fairly worthless.

We expect to see this show continue to grow as more and more people hear about it. We also wonder if organizers will go back to the July 4th long weekend next year in order to capitalize on the crowds around the Pikes Peak Hill Climb.
