Car stalled
Yesterday I was sitting at a stop light (on a hill, but I don't think this matters--brake applied). While waiting for the light to change green, the car just died. All lights on my dash, etc. I put it in park, reset the key, everything was fine.
I drove it into the parking lot and did the self-check--all was well there. I let it sit for about 20 minutes while inside, then drove it about 5 miles home. No issues, plenty of power. This morning, it was 8F when I left the house--car was very cold and after warming up no problems. Any idea what might have caused this? I'm at 82k, I am about to change my plugs for the first time since owning it (bought it was 42k)--not sure if it was done before that. Also, it's been so cold, maybe it was moisture? I have 3/4 tank of gasoline though. Thanks for any ideas. |
mine did that while driving the other day. No idea. I VAG'd it and had no codes, every
thing under the hood checked out okay. It was also cold when mine stopped.
My conclusion... it could have been: moisture, fuel pump, ignition, or something else electrical. It's been fine ever since but the car makes me nervous now. Anything could just be a guess. |
Yeah, nervous here too--I am glad we both agree though
It's possibly moisture and/or in the fuel pump.

mine did that to me once as well. It happened about 2 years ago and never since then
Just driving along on a nice 70 degree day and the car just shut off

Look at my posts on cold temp idle problems , try cleaning TB like Kris told me to.
I finally did it and car is doing much better .It has been -5 to 8+ around my area for past two days. I used about a 1/4 of a can of carb and choke cleaner from my garage cabinet , took the intake hose off at the TB end and sprayed cleaner in for about 15-20 seconds ,reattached hose and started car ,repeated 3 times and car now idles correctly and at higher rpms. Also add some fuel line drier as an extra measure in case its moisture in the fuel.
