How do you remove the shift knob on a Tiptronic?

Hey Everyone,
I want to replace my Tiptronic shift knob. Can anyone tell me how to remove it from the shifter?
All I was able to find is that you pull the little push button on the side outwards then pull the entire knob up. I wasn't able to do this when I tried it earlier.Am I just not pulling hard enough? (didn't want to break the thing)
A more detailed set of instructions would be appreciated.
Thank you very much for your help.

James Wu
A4 Club of Vancouver
1998 Black/Onyx 1.8tqa

A4 Club of Vancouver

Push the chrome ring below the knob down as far as it will go till it clears the shift knob. Then pull the button out as far as you can then pull up hard.
