Insurance company will not cover ANY of my mods. :-(

Dead 05-02-2002 09:41 AM

Better start removing everything you can.

Kirk 05-02-2002 09:42 AM

What about purchase protection with a credit card?

Liam in Montreal 05-02-2002 09:42 AM

So you get to take em off the car?

Sal R. 05-02-2002 09:42 AM

Will they allow you to take 'em off the car?

mdwsta4â„¢uroslut 05-02-2002 09:42 AM

major bummer man. sorry to hear that. (edit)

so what's the loss look like on the parts?

Dead 05-02-2002 09:44 AM

They are not paying him so he gets to take 'em of. He will have to replace with the OEM stuff.

markbradford 05-02-2002 09:45 AM

Yep that's the plan. I'm so pissed I'm not even hooking up the KO3.

Enjoy your box of OEM parts you mother****ers.

markbradford 05-02-2002 09:46 AM

Yeah - in a cardboard box in the back seat. F*&k em.

Bill In SoCal 05-02-2002 09:46 AM

that's for fraud

Bill In SoCal 05-02-2002 09:47 AM

dam dude. will you be able to get your clutch and SIII stuff out?

markbradford 05-02-2002 09:47 AM

No there's also loss/theft stuff.

Dead 05-02-2002 09:48 AM

Maybe but in the real world when dealing with insurance companies.......

...they are not the F'ked. They are the F'kers. be careful.

Bill In SoCal 05-02-2002 09:50 AM

really. huh..i need a better card :-)

Ray Khan 05-02-2002 09:51 AM

were any mods not salvageable?

I knwo doign the work of removing htme is a pita...sorry man

markbradford 05-02-2002 09:53 AM

They called them CUSTOMIZATIONS, and said I would have needed a special rider.

Dead 05-02-2002 09:54 AM

A lot of times the riders are pretty reasonable.

markbradford 05-02-2002 09:56 AM

One Strut, one Euro headlight, one rotor, two wheels aer kaput

®ob 05-02-2002 09:56 AM

That is so F-ing BS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I carry StateFarm. They said, if I submit proof and have pics of stuff I do to the car, they will cover it. They want the knowledge of all the mods I have done up front because they might have to adjust the rate they said. I've never needed to make a claim...knock on wood...

SameerP 05-02-2002 09:57 AM

Yes he can (assuming not damaged or restricted access from damage)...

if they covered mods he could have left them in...but since none covered, he has to remove them. This also means that any of the mods that were damaged he has to replace at his cost :(

markbradford 05-02-2002 09:57 AM

Ya but I didn't know I needed it in advance. In teh past, with another company.....

I've never needed it. They just asked for my receipts after the fact and covered everything.

®ob 05-02-2002 09:57 AM

I take it you didn't have one? That is a hard lesson to learn Mark....

Sorry bout that. Perhaps other on this board can learn from you unfortuante experience. But you can harvest some of the mods from the car correct? Stage 3 is still good I assume :)

SameerP 05-02-2002 09:58 AM

I have state farm as well, that is good to hear, got reciepts, i better take some photos, eh?

markbradford 05-02-2002 09:58 AM

Sameer - am I OK to just give them the stock parts ina box or does the car have to be in stock form?

Dead 05-02-2002 10:01 AM

If they said "replaced" and not "reinstalled" I'd go with nicely boxed and labled and plead

ignorance if something comes up about it.

jason in toronto 05-02-2002 10:03 AM

my insurance company said to inform them of any mods

SameerP 05-02-2002 10:04 AM

If the language says replaced them provide in a box...reinstalled, then put back in...

presumably they will just sell the car off to a yard that will pull the stuff off anyways, you are just saving the junker time and effort.

Surprisingly, JustDave has the right answer, isn't that a first for him or something? :)

Ray Khan 05-02-2002 10:06 AM

yuck...this makes me want to look at my insurance company's "mod coverage"

skabaru 05-02-2002 10:33 AM

hey sameer, you have the reciept on the evos?

oldkenobi 05-02-2002 10:45 AM

hmmm.

well we both know your "modifications" were more extensive then mine but when I totaled my car I took anything and everything that wasnt bolted down and some stuff that was. I didnt even leave a stock ECU in it. Also they gave me extra $ for the few mods that I did claim with reciepts like the bumper and euros. What they are doing to you just doesnt sound right to me. I mean, are they really goint to inspect the car and make sure everything is there? I dont even think the claims guy even looked at my car after I stripped it... they had already decided how much they would give me for it.

rigor 05-02-2002 11:12 AM

Progressive covers $1000 in aftermarket parts..

Gotta keep receipts, take pictures, to cover your ass.

fka smurfette 05-02-2002 12:00 PM

:(

but at least the stage 3 and most of your brakes and suspension are salvageable...

sorry to hear that mark.

zain 05-02-2002 12:19 PM

Sadly, there's a good reason that they don't w/o a special rider.

What is a used mod worth? What's a used modded up weekend race car worth? Why do people have the habit of returning cars to stock to sell them (and occasionally not tell the next buyer that the engine was run at 2X the normal boost for the last 75K miles)?

Mods are, from a sales/replacment value point of view, depreciative to a car. Thus, how do they (the insurance people) value your loss?

Buy me a brand new PES G2 if I wreck the car to replace the hard to sell used one I lost? Not likely.

Encourage people to total their cars to get replacement value, which would be above what we might sell our used mod-cars for? Also not likely.

Sucks. But not hard to understand. I'd do it too if I ran an insurance company.

emosberger 05-02-2002 03:24 PM

Sorry to hear about that...

Negative459 05-02-2002 08:45 PM

Mine's trying to screw me too (more)

Okay, so I'm waiting for the check on my stolen/sturipped (totalled) civic so I can get my A4. My insurance is trying to jack me bad. They're offering me $2500 for my 92 hatchback with a 1.8L integra motor, tranny, front axels, and all the standard bolt ons, suspension, alloys, custom interior, etc.. I have receipts for everything. The stereo alone was worth $2400. I laughed at them, told them pictures were on their way and that unless they plan on doing better, they can talk to my lawyer.

markbradford 05-02-2002 08:48 PM

My ins. co. would cover permanently installed stereo equipment, but not the other stuff.

That's got to be some kind of record - responding to a thread that hasn't seen action in 14 years!

Same thing for when my motorcycle was totaled.....i literally spend 3 hours stripping everything off it the night before a tow truck came and took it away. I mean i took everything i could like the cat, my exhaust, my clutch and brake levers, etc, etc. My bike was totaled so you couldn't really go thru it and inspect everything. Plus, the guy who came to look at it and gimme a number that'll be on my check did not have a clue bout motor cycles as in never even ridden one let alone work on one. The Tow truck driver even asked me if there was anything from it that i wanted to keep because it was just going to be thrown in a junk yard for spare parts and to become a hunk of shiny red scrap metal. He let me keep front fork (snapped in two) which was attached to the front tire for crying out loud! lol Bro, just take as much crap as you can out of it once the people come and inspect to give you a cash total. Once inspected, the insurance people never see it again; its all put on the tow truck/junkyard/ wherever-its-ending-up people to take care of. If not, then idk man...what kind of people you have working your auto insurance companies over there in the UK?? lol Goodluck to you tho. i hope it all works out well for you!
