some metal square piece that got shredded into pieces

sad eh? it's my cv joint. I'll post more pictures next time, my hands are full with grease now.

those are the races from the inside of your joint.

So that's what it's called. Do you have any idea how could this happen?

lack of lubrication maybe?

via a broken CV Boot....sounds plausible to me.

Being that they are covered in grease, I doubt that's the problem..
 

My guess is the actual outer case cracked.

dealer blame it on faulty installation/removal :)
 

which it has never been touched since the car was brought brand new.

But, removing it as a whole, even to replace the boot, should not cause this kind of failure.
 

perhaps it's just a bad piece?
