via a broken CV Boot....sounds plausible to me.

Default Being that they are covered in grease, I doubt that's the problem..

My guess is the actual outer case cracked.

Default dealer blame it on faulty installation/removal :)

which it has never been touched since the car was brought brand new.

Default But, removing it as a whole, even to replace the boot, should not cause this kind of failure.

perhaps it's just a bad piece?
