lltek intake

I <a href="https://forums.audiworld.com/a4/msgs/1332538.phtml">posted</a> last night asking whether the LLTek intake I had been shipped was the right part.

I just called them and spoke with their salesman (and eventually, a mechanic) about it and they have switched from the red metal U-shaped tube to a black plastic U-tube. It looks a lot cheaper and I was a bit taken a back that I had just spent $288 on it.

The new U-tube doesn't have the cutout for the ignition amplifier, it now mounts on a metal tray that screws onto the top of the plastic U-tube. This is what held up the installation last night and made me wonder whether it was the right part.

While just trying to get an answer as to where to mount the ignition amplifier since there was no cutout, I had to argue with the mechanic that my car was a 99.5 and not a 99, as he kept insisting it was. He asked whether my car had one or two piece headlights, and I said one, so he said the previous owner must have replaced them with an aftermarket housing. Why would anyone go through the trouble of replacing two-piece headlights with one-piece and not do clear corners? I know my car is a 99.5, it has clear sidemarkers, windshield wiper nozzles under the hood, one-piece headlights, and the new center console. He said that because my car had the ignition amplifier, it must be a 99.

The technician also said the ignition amplifier mounts to a tray and just sits on top of the tube, it does not sit inside of it as with the red metal tube. He said they changed to this new design because the previous models were prone to leaking.

For comparison, here's the intake they still show on their website:

and here's what the new one looks like: (there are screw holes on the underside)

So what do you plan to do about it?

I have the red one on my car, and I actually like it, better sound.

Are you missing a smaller cone filter type thing? (silver thing, not sure exact name, but it's shown on their website) that's suppose to be on for 99.5+ A4's?
If that's the part you need, I have it and don't need it.

99.5's do have the ignition amplifier(build date 3/99) look down a few posts about pulling fuse(s)

I think you got the intake for the new 02' style A4s.

Bing 09-04-2002 08:18 AM

it is only for '00 and up. not to worry

Audiboy 09-04-2002 08:45 AM

All Audis have it. Doesn't matter where it is mounted as long as it gets cooled.

It is the new style intake, it is also sold by EVO motorsports.

<center><img src="http://www.evoms.com/intake-covers-off-40k.jpg"></center><p>The new intake will not get hot like the older metal intake. I think it is made the same way Ice Man intakes.

The tech your talking to thinks you have a dbw which was the first one to NOT have the ignition amplifier. The 99.5 was a non dbw car but came with the 1 piece headlights that come on the dbw cars.

Go to page 5 of this link and you will see how the new style intake works on your non dbw car.<ul><li><a href="http://www.evoms.com/PDF%20Files/Audi%20A4%2018T%2097-01.pdf">link to intake</a></li></ul>
