My 2000 is DBW and has the ignition amplifier.

I have the red metal LLtek intake and I had to put the ign amp into the cutout.

Does it have the ingnition amplifier or just the metal plate that was in the air box

but without any thing bolted to the top of it. Audi used the same air box for all the cars but removed the amplifier but left the metal plate.

That small 2nd filter is for the secondary air pump which only comes on the 2000 and up.

Andy_FL 09-04-2002 09:29 AM

Right, but it's a separate piece up to MY 99.5 or 2000, after that ..

...it's integrated into each coilpack.

Ignition amplifier controls the ..

...ignition :-) It's quite the integral part...it sends the signals to the coilpacks to fire the plugs. If yours go bad, you'll know it when you're running on 3 cylinders...only $300 for a new one! :-)

You paid 288 bucks for that?!? Man, talk about large profit margins!!!

Audiboy 09-04-2002 10:14 AM

I wasn't aware of that Thanks. Didnt think they changed it seeing the S4 still used those

amplifiers (2 of them) until now.

Send it back IMHO. I had the old version and it did nothing but sound cool and screw up performance

It sucks hot air and screws up the MAF readings.

Andy_FL 09-04-2002 11:06 AM

Yup..

...I think when Audi saw these separate amplifiers failing left and right ($300 part!!), they took notice and re-designed them....into the individual packs. When I limped in on 3 cylinders, the tech knew exactly what the problem was...he said "yup, seen a few of these." Gee...that makes me feel better :-)

Not sure if it was necessarily a better move, as the coilpacks still seem to fail on the '00s and '01s....for one reason or another.

That explains it! Thanks!
