OKay so at 70 mph and 20 psi one of my hoses let loose on me and holy crap I loose all power, pull
off on an exit, and try and mash the throttle enough to get to the top. After I roll to the top of the exit and pull over to the right hand side and pop the hood I find the hose disconnected and the only other thing I notice is that the catalyst is glowing orange at this point. Probably because I was flooring it to try and maintain speed and not turn into an accident, so I was running the turbo all out, and the air was going nowhere and generating a ton of heat. I'm afraid to get on it actually, till I recheck all my hose clamps..
I'm assuming there is no real chance of any long term damage etc ? Just like flooring it on the track for an extended period, right ? |
you should be fine... if you dont already have them get the t-bolt clamps>regular hose clamps
|
these are the clamps i speak of:

I should probably get some heh..
|
Scary ain't it?
I blew the turbo outlet hose off the FMIC inlet pipe once ... thought I had been shot at .... lol
Which hose you blow off? |
but I should be fine in terms of everything else right mark? (edit)
I honestly thought I had just exploded something, as in my gas turned into nitro gliscerin and my engine had a whole in the block.
Hose going from the SMIC to the intake manifold. |
I have tons and tons of those in stainless in my shop. The cars, truck and boats get them. ;)
Since I have them on hand in the boatyard they get used all the time. Overkill for most uses, but on a boosted car they are the best!
|
As long as you didn't run too far you'll be fine. The 'glow' was likely due to running lean
... false air entering in thru the intake manifold hose.
|
it is trashed, you need to send your turbo to me for a paperweight!!
|
that's what I was thinkng.. it was maybe 1/2 mile at most.
