Replacing brake reservoir on '97 A4 1.8T
 

I was doing a low pressure bleed of my brakes the other day when fluid started weeping out the side of the reservoir. It looks like it developed a crack that is only noticeable under pressure. Anyway, I need to replace the reservoir, has anybody ever done this? Looking at the ETK, it looks like the only thing between the master cylinder and the reservoir are grommets... it can't be that simple. Thanks.

It just press fits in place.

I did the same thing with mine, except mine blew apart completely and puked brake fluid all over. Seems the older resevoirs operate at a bit lower bleeding press than the new ones. New resevoir is about $35 at cost and they just press in! Just don't cut the wrong nipple off for the clutch master like a jack ass(me).....

Can you just patch it with those permatex fuel tank repair goo?

I used some plastic epoxy....
 

I roughed it up a little w/ sand paper, cleaned with brake clean and applied the best plastic weld epoxy I could get from Autozone, let it dry thouroughly and a few weeks later it started to leak again.... not worth trying to repair really. It's dangerous if it all leaked out not to mention ruining your paint. Brake fluid eats just about everything

Well i'm digging out this old thread to ask my question.

I have a crack on the brake fluid reservoir and was about to order a new one when i noticed that there are 2 different shapes. Many reservoirs have this long tube/nipple on one side picture link picture link 2 but my oem one doesn't have it. Why is this tube there and are they interchangeable without any modifications?

More pics to show the difference, what i noticed is that vagcat part code for my car should be 8D0611301, but the one with this nipple has 8E0611301 yet the parts catalogs offer the "E" one for my car and not "D".

I'm guessing this nipple is for cars with ESP or some sort of other electronic aid?
