Erratic Idle 2.0 TDi B8 2010

HI all, my first post. I ve read loads on this forum and online about erratic idle on Audi's ... after tons of YouTube etc i made the plunge and changed MAF ...still the same ... took off EGR and cleaned the hell out of it ( wasn't too dirty tbh) ...that made a difference when driving i must admit but not on idle. I then heard a slight clicking noise with engine cover off and ticking over ...coming from the front right of the engine .. i think it is the High pressure pump? What is the sensor on that? When i rev the car it sounds like there is a little bit of metal floating about in there..when i followed the fuel pipes to near the bulk head and felt the pipe and on tickover it was almost like a throbbing feeling...is this correct? Any help would be gratefully appreciated...its driving me nuts !!

BUMP my own post .
This was my problem and was fixed with changing the fuel regulator valve on the fuel rail.

Drove me crazy but anyone having same problem try this .

Hello. I'm having the same issue. What exactly did you changed? The fuel pressure sensor or the fuel pressure relief valve? Number 10 or number 8 on the picture?

Exact same issue. 380k kms. Common Rail 2.0 D TDI. No warning lights or engine codes. Replaced PRV on the fuel rail fixed the problem.

How to

Hi all,

Thanks for the information below ! Likely to save a small fortune in diagnostics costs !

Is this simply a matter of removing the old and replacing with new ? Couldn't find any guides or how to (even on Haynes).

Dont have VCDS so cant bleed the fuel system if it comes to it and want to make sure this isnt part of the process !

Thanks
Scott
