A6 Headliner Droops

After repairing the loose drain hose connection behind the driver side sunroof that caused water leaks in the roof, my headliner near the rear window began drooping. I tried using a hand-held steam gun and narrow fluffy paint roller combination along with the help of a few push pins but that only made the headliner droop wherever I applied steam.

Soooo, I am going to drop the headliner assembly and slide the headliner out the rear of the A6 per Boston Driver’s detailed procedure. Now, how should I repair the droop? I am thinking of putting the headliner on a workbench facing skyward and then somehow use a 3M adhesive spray along with the roller to repair the droopiness. Any tips, timesavers, etc. would be most appreciated.

BTW, I plan on clamping all of the drain hose connections in the sunroof. Are there any other known sunroof issues I should tackle during this surgery?

Drooping a6 headliner

Well, I ended up taking the coward's route and had Tony's Upholstery shop in Edgewater, FL replace the headliner for $200 which included parts and labor. The mechanic said that a6 cars in florida have this drooping headliner problem after a few years and the only way to fix it is to drop the headliner, remove the the old headliner, remove all the glue and then install a new headliner cloth. He let me glue the drain tubes to the fittings which is a very, very important step. He dropped the headliner, then I did the glueing and then he re-installed the headliner with new cloth. I can send pictures of the glueing job if interested - there were 4 glue spots. I used clamps in 2 spots and just glue on th eother 2 spots because the fittings were soft.

I tried the heat gun and roller method which did not work on the a6. Maybe that method works on other car roofs.

I had Tony re-do my headliner 3 months ago and all is well.
