I need some opinions on the K&N Performance Air Filter.

Is it worth it to pay double the price for performace air filter? I understand that they are usable and such, but is it worth the money or should I just stick with the basic air filter?

Also, Mobil 1 OW40 Synthetic good choice for a 2000 A6 2.7t?

use the regular.

I had a K+N and its not worth it to clean and oil it.

JimmyC83 01-01-2009 07:16 PM

the Motor oil is fine

The K&N Lube oil in the air filter is not.

it can get into the system (MAF) and "kill" it

Oil = good...........air filter = waste of money

It is a physical fact that you cannot filter air without introducing some form.....

of restriction in flow. Therefore if you have a filter which flows more air for the same given surface area, it will not filter as well - your choice.

This is ignoring the fact or fiction behind the possible problems caused to the MAF sensor which is not designed to be dombarded with micro-droplets of oil from time to time - it is designed to work in clean, dry air, which has passed through a paper filter - again, your choice.

I ran tests with and w/o K&N. No change in measured airflow a chipped 2.7t.

The airbox/air filter is not a point of restriction on the 2.7t. Save your money... just use a regular filter.

M1. Good choice.

I doubt anyone here would encourage you to buy anything other than paper.

STFA for MAF.

TwinTurboTerror 01-02-2009 04:17 AM

They tend to screw up the MAF sensors because of the oil on the filter.

skip....the oil is fine, been using it in the big girl forever

shhhhh - don't confuse people with actual measurable facts!
