Does anyone know have to replace the MMI knob?

I'm looking for the removal process.

Is it just a pry up knob? or is there a special to remove it?

We must ask the question why do you want to remove it ?

the power/volume button yes but i think youre talking about the big center button correct?

i think i remember reading in some forum years ago about popping it straight up but i would not try it

i had a scratched button and there was times i wanted to just pop it off
but was scared

months ago i got a replacement unit to replace my unit which also had sticky buttons
i swapped the guts of the two units (basically exterior of 3g and interior 2g) .. it worked great
my power/volume button worked
cleaned the rubber liner and sticky buttons cleared up
plus the top cover looked great

when i made the swap i had the older unit open
although i did not try to pop main button off.. it did looked like it could only be removed from the inside... i remember it lookig like it would be damaged if forced up and out... theres like a copper ring plate that holds it in place
i took some pics that i can look up or even better since i still have the old unit i guess i can reopen it dbl check and or retake pics

heres a link

I read somewhere that you can just peel off the top layer of the main nob and replace it with a new top piece.

Where do you get the top piece that you peel off? Since I'd like to do that to mine

I'm not entirely convinced that removing the top layer solves the issue, since that would assume there's another layer beneath it. Can someone 100% confirm that? how many layers are there?

I have a '06 A6 and the main control knob started to bubble up, but its not paint it's like a vinyl and underneath it is black paint so I just removed the vinyl that was bubbling up. I removed it with my finger nail and now it looks just like it did before it started to peel. shrugs.
