MMI went down!!

Hi!
I'm a new poster, but an old reader!

Like the title read my MMI has gone down... totally dead.
From one day to the other.

I've checked all fuses and they are good so far my eyes can see.
When I do a hard reset the unit In the glovebox (5f?) makes a Buzz but nothing else happens.

The other threads I've read everybody have seen the splashescreen for 3 sec but mine is totally dead.

It hasn't rain since last time it worked.

The car is a 2009 Avant c6
I have MMI 3g basic without nav.
I don't have access to VCDS but obdeleven.

Thanks in advance!!

Bypass the Sirius satellite radio module if you have one by replacing it with a this loopback fiber optic bridge: 4E0 973 802.

Thanks for answer!!

Ok. But I'm not sure I have that module. I only have one module in the back left side and that's this 4F0 035 056 A.

Or am I wrong??

Rickard Olofsson 06-18-2019 03:25 AM

I did also see the aerial antenna amp 4F9 035 225 A in the back.
frogot to say that I can't reach the 5f module with the obdeleven.

And another thing I thought of was that I change breakpads back and open, closed and test cycle the parkingbreake...everything works fine but I couldn't reach the parking brake module either...don't know if this is related but...

Is the Arial antenna a part of the loop?

No, not that one. The one I am referring to sits vertically and faces the left tailamp. It is smaller.

Here is its part number: 4E0 910 593 N

It looks like this:

I am not saying I am sure this is the cause in your case but it was what was causing my issues and the fiber bridge is cheap enough to go for it and give it a try. You will find it way cheaper on eBay.

What do you mean by "you couldn't reach the parking brake module either"?

Rickard Olofsson 06-18-2019 06:27 AM

Ok. I can't find the one you referring to....I have a EU car so maybe I don't have satellite radio??
I just see those 2 modules in the left back.

Oh sorry...I might just use wrong words...in obd eleven there is a controll unit that reads "parking break"...the one I entered when I change breaks..after this happening I can't enter the unit anymore.

Thanks again for answers it sucks to drive without music....😟

I was really hoping it was the Sirius because the fix is cheap and easy.
However I have heard the bluetooth module can also fail and cause these issues.
Here is a thread that discusses that: https://www.audiworld.com/forums/q7-...odule-2860677/
There are also other threads around here about the MMI issues. Do some research and you should find more info.
Good luck...

Thanks alot....I will check around!!

Sam Zubel 06-18-2019 03:26 PM

I would check in the trunk. Open the drivers side panel in the trunk, it will most likely be the top most module that has damage and but could be more. Using a T25 torx socket with a short 1/4 inch extension or possibly without, and a rachet remove the 3 screws, 2 facing the taillight and one facing the seats on the left side closer to the body. Pull the module out some and unplug all the connectors and optic plug and you will see right away it has water damage. At that point install the optic loop and turn the key on and the mmi should power up. Proceed to scan the car and see what other faults are stored.

-Cheers

Hi Sam!

Problem solved...for now and forever I hope!!

I checked in the trunk at driver side again. I didn't see the screws you where talking about, but I don't know if I have different layout or more basic equipment. Like I said earlier I only have the 4F0 035 056 A and small antenna.
But I tried your tip anyway and released the module and disconnected all plugs and reconnected the optical one... nothing happened...so I tried a few times more with no success.
So then I just assembled everything again and checked that all connections were right..and BOOM it worked....sounds odd and ridiculous but I think all went down on a bad connection....or I hope it was.

thanks again for all help!!

This is how it looks.
II think it was when I reconnected the big one it started up!!

have the same problem. in my case, it's the voice command module. i've pulled the fibre link out of the tuner and put that on the fibre optic bridge but what's the best way to get the tuner out of the car without taking all of the trim panels out of the back of the a6 avant in order to pull the module out of the radio? the dealership wants $3700 for the repair on a 2008 a6 avant.
