My jack failed years ago, but am still overcharged! Gets harder and harder to keep up

Aluminum jack failed. Replaced with a steel one from another audi (same shape and size). Works fine

the jack from my 2003 vehicle finally broke on me. what a POS

Luckily, I wasn't hurt.

Wow. This is perhaps second only to the heated steering wheel failures.

My D3 W12 dropped off the jack while changing a flat
 

This was at the side of the road, on tarmac, changing the offside rear wheel. The nearside rear wheel slipped on the loose edge of the tarmac and moved about 1/2 an inch. This was enough for the weight of the car to move the jack so that it became unbalanced and tipped over, pushing the offside wheel further.

The jack's foot remained where it was, the top of the jack remained in the socket in the underside of the car, but the whole back end of the car ended up moving sideways to the nearside as the jack acted as a nice lever to allow the weight transfer. It bit into the lower sills and ended up wedged under the car. I had to roll the car off it before I could extract it.

Luckily, the flat wasn't off, just loose, so no damage to the drivetrain, and the lower sills on the D3 are shrouded in plastic that took the brunt of the bite from the jack body, so no structural damage either.

It's a POS and I would rather call a flatbed than trust the S8 to it.

The only reason mine has never failed is because I'm scared to use it!

Happened once on my B6 A4 and once on my B7 A4.
 

my 1973 VW beetle jack was *SO* much better.
