After 5 new trunk motors, they finally fixed mine

I have been having repeated problems with my trunk opening up properly. When I press the button to open the trunk, it pops open an inch or so and just lies there trying to open and the lid won't open by itself.

I've got a 2005 A8L with an extended warranty (was bought CPO). Almost every time that I have taken the car in for service they have replaced the trunk motor. One time, they even said: "we replaced the motor but it still doesn't work properly. Your car must have been in an accident because it just won't work. sorry."

When I took the car in for the 85,000 mile service, I told them what I always tell them: the trunk lid isn't opening properly. They replaced the trunk motor again (under warranty), but this time said "We replaced the motor and Audi has an upgraded motor that we put in there". Now, when I open the lid it sounds like the motor is much more powerful and the darn thing really opens up better. (before it would just barely start moving).

My suggestion to those with problems: if your trunk lid is marginal, try to get yours replaced before your warranty runs out. I'd imagine that this motor costs a couple of grand to have installed.

thanks,

Navin

It J's possible they replaced it with the newer motor that works better. Part number would be nice. I think they are roughly $350. No more than an hour to install. Should be less than $500.

Or just have me stand next to the car and it will work properly. Just like things did for The Fonz on Happy Days. Although you are probably too young to know what I meant by that. Google & Youtube are your friends.

Jeez.....

will you two just get a room?...

Navin, as Brozee says, could you get us a part number please? My boot lid opens ok once you get it past the initial 6" or so of travel... for reference, should it open (and close) completely unassisted from either the key fob or the door button?

Yes.

That's how mine works in cold weather - just the opposite of everyone else.

The early trunk motors are crappy now for some reason. You need to install the MY08 and newer metal housing trunk motor. The early plastic housing motors seem to be having issues right out of the box for some reason.

Is this the part number for the new motor or is the number the same on all motors?
