Camshaft Position Sensor
Well, my CEL came on today, so I ran by the parts store to have them read it. It came back P0341 Camshaft Position Sensor Implausible Signal. While I was home for Christmas, I did an auto scan with the Rosstech cable I lent my brother, and got a couple other codes as well, P1947 Relay For Aux Coolant Pump Open Circuit and P0341 again(unconfirmed).
I'm waiting for my cable to get shipped back to me to check for other codes. Sensor's going, my guess. Anyone else have their's go out or get the same codes? |
I had the same situation about a 1.5 wks ago. My factory warranty was set to expire about 3 days later, so I took it in. Got new sensors and software update to ECM. Was hoping it'd address the jerky transmission at low speeds but no avail. :-(

Well, here's the VCDS results, three separate faults, not necessarily related, but here they are:

Ah, I should have picked up on it when you said 'sensors', Capt, but I have a new question. Can I tell which sensor it is with the malfunction? Turns out, there are 4 sensors total, at $44 each.

I was told it was about $1k worth of work though. |
I can't help to think it's odd that more than one sensor going at any given time, have you checked the coolant valves for leaking coolant?
|
Ironic - I just had mine in for the same thing. I wonder if there was a production run issue on the sensor (or else why would they proactively change the other one). They were both intake cams, in this case.
I have the jerky trans issue, too - but only at very low speed when very cold. I also needed the valve for the heater core replaced. All under CPO warranty (thankfully). |
Hi, just purchased a 2011 A8 with the 4.2L CDRA engine. Car is running just fine, no suspicious sounds from the motor hot or cold etc.
However these codes found from the engine module sound a bit alarming: 4113 - Camshaft Position Sensor (G40): Implausible Signal P0341 00 [032] - Upper Limit Exceeded 8626 - Camshaft Position Sensor (G163): Implausible Signal P0346 00 [032] - Lower Limit Exceeded If cleared, both reappear in around 1 week of driving. What do you think about the issue? The ECM is in version 0004, and according to some Russian sites engine ECU update to version 0006 could fix the problem. |
I'd change them. Mine lead to (I think) failure of one of my cats. I'm guessing an inconsistent signal caused rich conditions. The dealer said no, but they also said that when a blown coil lead to a failed cat - for the same reason :)

I decided to try first ECU updating with the dealer, but they refused to update without a SVM code. And of course charged 95 euros anyway.
Update: Actually dealer called me today and apologised, they somehow managed to find a SW update for the ECU with version 0007. I will go back there next week. This block is from my engine, which shows the version 0004: Address 01: Engine (------CDRA) Labels: None Part No SW: 4H0 907 560 HW: 4H0 907 560 Component: 4.2l V8/4V H07 0004 Revision: N5H07--- However with some googling I found multiple hits with versions 0005 and 0006: Address 01: Engine (------CDRA) Labels:* None Part No SW: 4H0 907 560 C HW: 4H0 907 560 Component: 4.2l V8/4V H08 0005 Revision: N5H08--- Adresse 01: Motorelektronik (------CDRA) Labeldatei:* Keine Teilenummer SW: 4H0 907 560 HW: 4H0 907 560 Bauteil: 4.2l V8/4V H05 0006 Revision: N5H05--- |
